Morehead St. Up for Challenge at Wright State Tuesday

MOREHEAD, Ky. — Morehead State men’s basketball will make the relatively short ride up interstates 64 and 75 to Dayton, Ohio Monday as the Eagles are set to take on the Wright State Raiders Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET.

The game from the Nutter Center can be seen live on ESPN+ and heard live on WIVY-96.3 FM and on MSUEagles.com.

Morehead State (3-7) is still searching for its first true road victory in 2018-19, while Wright State (5-6) is looking tp protect the home court where the Raiders are 5-1 already this season.

Following the action, the Eagles will look forward to playing at home for the first time this month when IUPUI visits Friday at 5:35 p.m.

GAME NOTES

THE SERIES WITH THE RAIDERS

Morehead State leads the all-time series with Wright State 7-5 – a series which began with an MSU victory in 1974-75. The teams have not met, however, since the Eagles claimed a 74-69 overtime win at home in 2013-14. The teams also met in 2012-13, but before that had not played each other since 2002-03.

TRENDS AND TIDBITS

Jordan Walker has seven double-figure scoring games and five of them have been at least 20+ point efforts … Walker now has 34 career double-figure scoring performances … Lamontray Harris has five double-doubles in nine games and is tied for the OVC lead in double-doubles this season…MSU is now 3-5 in overtime games in the last four seasons … Allowing just 18 rebounds to Ohio-Chillicothe is the lowest opponent rebound total in the OVC this season … Harris needs just 28 rebounds to reach 500 for his career … A.J. Hicks has six games out of 10 with at least five assists.

3-POINT STREAK KEEPS MOVING AHEAD

Morehead State has hit at least one three-pointer in 382 consecutive games, dating back to 2007 when the Eagles were held without a made one from beyond the arc against Jacksonville State.

BAKER’S DOZEN

Sophomore forward James Baker made the most of his first start in 2018-19 and just the third starting assignment of his career at Samford. Baker put in a career-best 12 points for just his third-ever double-figure scoring effort. He also tied his career high with eight rebounds in a career-long 36 minutes.

GOING HARD ON THE GLASS

Morehead State ranks first in the Ohio Valley Conference in offensive rebounds. The Eagles pull down 13.6 boards off the offensive glass. The rebounds lead to an average of 13.8 second-chance points per outing.

SWITCHING IT UP

Morehead State had used the same starting five (A.J. Hicks, De’von Cooper, Jordan WalkerLamontray Harrisand Malek Green) in all nine games this season before James Baker took Green’s place at Samford.

MARCH TOWARD 1,000

Lamontray Harris has a legitimate chance to reach 1,000 career points if he can keep up his average this season. He has piled up 811 career points.

Compared to last season after 10 games, Morehead State has improved its turnover rate by more than five per game. The Eagles averaged 18.2 mistakes per outing after 10 contests last year, compared to just 12.8 this season.

Morehead State averages 24.5 three-pointers attempted per game, hitting 8.1. Freshman Ja’cori Wilson leads the Eagles by shooting 46 percent from outside the arc.
