Jomaru Brown Closes Out Season with OVC Freshman of the Week Honors

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University guard Jomaru Brown has been voted the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week for men’s basketball, the league announced on Monday.

Brown closed out his rookie season in style, averaging 24 points, 5.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 3 steals-per-game over EKU’s final weekend.

The 6-2 guard from Raleigh, North Carolina went for 17 points, four steals and a career-high nine assists in the Colonels’ 82-80 win over Austin Peay on Thursday night at McBrayer Arena.

He followed that up by pouring in a career-high 31 points versus in-state rival Morehead State in the season finale on Saturday night. He added four rebounds, two assists and two steals in that game.

Brown shot 54.5 percent from the field, 50 percent from three-point range and 87.5 percent from the free throw line over the week.

Brown finishes the regular season averaging 16.9 points-per-game during conference play, tops among all OVC freshmen.

He also ranked second in the OVC in steals during the regular season (60).

Brown was voted OVC Freshman of the Week three times this season.
