Lexington, Ky. – For the first time this season, the Transylvania softball team has entered the NFCA Division III Top 25 poll with a national ranking of 23rd in the Week 2 edition of the 2019 season poll.

Wednesday’s poll slots the Pioneers in 23rd place with 22 voting points out of a possible 200 voting points.

The Pioneers opened the season last Saturday with two demonstrative victories over Central Region foes Case Western Reserve and Thomas More. Transylvania’s offense was on display throughout the day as the Pioneers outscored the two teams a combined 16-6. Sophomore Kameron Bowling dished a complete-game win in the opener while freshman Alyssa Nunn ignited the offense with a 6-for-7 showing over the weekend.

Defending national champion Virginia Wesleyan University continues to lead the poll, followed by Illinois Wesleyan, Ithaca, and St. Thomas (Minn.).

The NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll is voted on by eight Division III softball coaches, each from the eight NCAA regions.

The Pioneers softball team will return to action on Sunday, March 10 as the Pioneers travel to Seguin, Texas for five doubleheaders against South region squads. The Pioneers will take on LeTourneau to start their spring break week with a doubleheader on the campus of Texas Lutheran University. First pitch is slated for 4:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight time on Sunday.
