LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Southeastern Conference announced Monday Tyrese Maxey as the first Freshman of the Week.
Maxey scored 26 points in his debut for the Wildcats against then-No. 1 Michigan State in the Champions Classic which was played in New York City's Madison Square Garden.
The 6'3" guard from Garland, Texas followed that performance with nine points and three rebounds vs. Eastern Kentucky on Friday.
Kentucky has dominated the weekly SEC awards under Calipari. UK has won more weekly SEC honors (101) than any other school during the Calipari era, including 81 SEC Freshman of the Week honors and 20 SEC Player of the Week awards.
UK plays on Tuesday night in Rupp Arena against Evansville, who is coached by former Wildcat, Walter McCarty.
