Mike Edwards became the second Kentucky defensive back taken on Day 2 of the NFL Draft.
Edwards was taken in the 3rd round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the overall 99th pick in the draft. He was a four-year starter for the Wildcats and had a 318 tackles to finish 2nd all-time at Kentucky among players at his position.
Edwards considered turning pro after his junior season but returned. During 2018 he had 82 total tackles, nine of them for a loss, two interceptions and six pass break-ups. He had 10 career interceptions for UK while never missing a game for the Cats. He played in 51 with 44 consecutive starts.
Edwards goes to a Tampa Bay team that was just 5-11 last season. New defensive coordinator, Todd Bowles, likes to bring a lot of pressure and the safety position is important to that scheme. Good news for Edwards.
