These are some amazing times. The schools and classrooms we all took for granted seem like distant memories now. However, it also brings us back to the way things used to be (and for many maybe still are), with the parents as primary teachers of our kids.
I had some absolutely wonderful parents that did nothing but encourage me. When I was about 6 and taking an interest in weather, they got me a couple of the old How and Why science books…and I still have them. I show these books to EVERY Bill’s Weather 101 I’ve done through the years. That means there’s 125 thousand Kentucky kids that have heard the story of my parents, of my 5th grade teacher Mrs. Wormley, and everything that so many folks did in my formative years to help me become a TV weather guy.
In these times, your role is now so important, and the resources are so vast with this little internet thing. My one piece of advice for parents is listen to your kids, find out what they like and help them learn everything they can about that topic. With all this time we have with our kids, we can really help and encourage them to live their dreams.
I could never thank my parents enough for what they did, hopefully your kids will do the same years from now.
