A major and impactful WINTER STORM is on its way to Kentucky beginning with light ice and snow Sunday night and early Monday and then transitioning to a heavy snow and ice storm later Monday and Monday night. The morning commute Monday may be slowed, but by late afternoon the conditions will worsen. Travel will likely be very difficult if not impossible by Monday night.

The storm should bring heavy icing to the Lake Cumberland area into the southeastern third of Kentucky. A transition zone of heavy sleet will likely alter total accumulations of ice on the south end and snow on the north end. In areas that see all snow, a 6+ inch event is very possible and a good place to start from 48 hours out.
