LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Kentucky State Police is now the lead agency in the search for 16-year-old Luke Craig, who is said to have escaped from the Fayette Regional Juvenile Detention Center. And they have reason to believe Luke Craig could be dangerous.

"We do consider this kid to be dangerous, so if you see him, don’t try to apprehend him yourself," said KSP Trooper and Public Affairs Officer, Bernis Napier.

Craig managed to get away from the detention center shortly before 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, and his whereabouts at this time is anyone’s guess.

"In some cases, they want to get as far away as possible. In some cases, they want to stay in the area, because that’s what they’re familiar with. We're looking at both options," Napier added.

One resident of the Masterson Station section of town, which isn't far from the justice center, shared surveillance video, which she believes captures Craig wandering around on her property at around midnight, but no one can confirm the identity of the person on that video.

Craig was arrested last September and charged with the killing of his mother, Teffani Noe and younger sister, Brooke Groggin. According to police, he led them on a multi-county chase prior to his arrest in 2020, which ended in Louisville.

Residents of the area who spoke with LEX 18 didn't seem overly concerned about Craig being on the loose, but police are asking residents to be vigilant and to call them if they have any information on Craig’s whereabouts.

If anyone attempts to offer Craig their assistance, it could be considered aiding a fugitive, which is a crime.

"Absolutely, if you’re aiding someone we're looking for, actively, you could face charges yourself," Napier stressed.

"If you come in contact with him call 911, or your local law enforcement agency," Napier said.
