BATON ROUGE, La. — The EKU baseball team went on the road Friday to beat No. 11 LSU to start the season 4-0. That's the Colonels best start to a season since 2001.

Brennen Kelly got the start for Eastern and he allowed only one hit and no runs through 4 and one-third innings before he gave way to Louis Davenport III. The Colonels used five pitchers in all with Jacob Abbott came in during the 9th with the tying run on first and two outs. He struck out the only batter he faced on five pitches to pick up the save.

Offensively, catcher A.J. Lewis scored the first run in the third inning as the Colonels had the bases loaded and he beat out an infield single to allow Charles Ludwick to score from third. Outfielder Nick Howie provided the only other run with a single through the left side of the infield during the 5th inning to score Michael Brewer.

The win gave EKU head coach Edwin Thompson his fifth win over top-30 ranked teams since 2016.

The same two teams play on Saturday at 4:00 pm with the SEC Network+ televising the game online.
