EKU gets 78-74 road win at SIU Edwardsville

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — Eastern Kentucky snapped its two-game losing streak with a 78-74 win at Southern Illinois Edwardsville Monday afternoon. And the Colonels also broke a long losing streak at SIUE with their first win there since 2011.

EKU took a 43-33 lead at the half as Wendell Green, Junior hit a long three at the buzzer. The freshman led the Colonels with 18 points.

EKU would build the lead to 12 off a steal and pass to Curt Lewis for a slam. He added 10 points. But, the Cougars went on a 14-2 run to tie the game at 68. Cooper Robb would get a basket on a reverse lay-up to give the Colonels a 70-68 lead with 4:41 to go in the game. Eastern would hit free throws down the stretch to hold on for the 78-74 win.

The Colonels improve to 15-4 overall this season, 9-3 in the OVC.

EKU travels to Nashville on Thursday for a nationally televised game against Belmont. Tip off is set for 9:00 pm and will be aired live on ESPNU.
