MOREHEAD, Ky. — Morehead State evened the early season series with rival Eastern Kentucky by beating the Colones 75-62 on Monday night. EKU had won the previous meeting just a week ago by three.
The Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the game and were up 17-6. But, the Colonels kept chipping away at the deficit to finally take the lead on a Wendell Green bucket with 16:56 to go in the game. Morehead State then went on a 6-0 run to take the lead and never trailed again.
K.J. Hunt came off the bench to score a career-high 17 points. He was one of four Eagles to score in double figures. OVC Freshman of the Week, Johni Broome added 10 rebounds. EKU was led by King, who finished with 17 points, three rebounds and three steals.
Morehead St. improves to 4-4 overall, 1-1 in the OVC. They'll host SIU-Edwardsville Friday at 6:00.
EKU drops to 5-2 overall, 1-1 in the OVC. They'll host Campbellsville-Harrodsburg Thursday night at 7:00.
